Tragedy in Nashville

As I’m sure everyone has already heard, on March 27, 2023 a great tragedy happened at Covenant School in Nashville TN. Three children and 3 adults were brutally shot and killed by a lone assailant inside the school. The assailant was shot and killed by police officers arriving on sight. Covenant School is only blocks from my office.

Sadly, this event has become way too common and no longer shocks us in the way it may have in past decades. However, when it happens in your own neighborhood it is devastating to those in nearby communities and citizens of the state. As the details of the event begin to settle in, we work towards healing and moving forward in the shadow of this devastating event, I would like to offer some words of encouragement, if possible, as a member of the city it occurred in and as a social worker.

Even in the aftermath of this unbelievably tragic event, people have bonded together and supported each other in ways that have made me so proud of my fellow Nashvillians. I want to thank all TASSW members who have reached out to us to offer prayers and support for my city. Healing is only beginning, but we are strong, and we will heal and arise even stronger.
